Skye Tolls Demo - Independence Day

At a meeting of SKAT officials today, a decision was made to organise a major demonstration on the Skye Bridge on Saturday 3rd of July.

We welcome all Skye Bridge toll protestors to participate in this demo and not just SKAT members and supporters.

We have chosen Saturday 3rd of July, as the nearest practical day to American Independence Day, because we want the theme for the demo to be a call to the Scottish Executive to “give us the date” of the abolition of the tolls, and our independence from the stranglehold of this American company.

We are inviting John Farquhar Munro MSP to play a leading part in the demo, and we would be delighted to see many of the faces who were at the front of such protests in the past, come and play a leading role in this one.

We want to see all the people, who stood together at the start of the protest nearly 9 years ago, stand together again now that we are about to achieve our objective.

Our plan is for a colourful march across the bridge, involving families demanding our “independence” from this American company with lots of music dressing-up play acting etc; but with the serious message to the Scottish Executive “We want an early date for the toll coming off”

Would you help us is this effort by:

(a) Coming along to take part in the demo

(b) Sending financial support to help us organise and publicise the event

(c) Sending messages of support, and writing to your MSP about the issue

After nearly a decade of struggle against both British, and Scottish Governments we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, we also know of course that there are strong, if somewhat shy, forces strenuously opposed to conceding to our demand that the toll be removed. We need once again to see the united voice of the community demanding the removal of the toll, while celebrating the success of the campaign so far.

Le deagh dhùrachd,

Andy Anderson
