Staff who collect the tolls at the Skye Bridge were told this week to expect redundancies.
The announcement follows close on the heels of the news that the Scottish Executive are planning to set aside money in their Budget for next year to possibly buy back the Bridge. It is not known if the redundancies are part of this plan or are just a cost cutting exercise by the bridge company.
Negotiations over the sale have been ongoing between the Executive and the Skye Bridge company for some time now, and it is hoped that an amicable solution will be found soon to finally abolish these extortionate tolls.
No date has been given to staff over when the redundancies might occur, though if this is linked to the above negotiations it is not going to happen real soon.
