16 November 1995 - Skye Beer Now Flowing

Skye's only brewery is now in production, with the first bottles of beer due to hit the Scottish markets next week.

The Isle of Skye Brewery is based in Uig and is owned by two teachers who work in Portree High School.

The first beer, Red Cullins is expected to be produced in quantities of 10 barrels each week to start with, increasing to 40 barrels as business grows. It is hoped that a second beer, Black Cuillins, will be available next year.

Only a small number of outlets locally will sell the product to start with, while the bulk will be shipped away weekly to wholesalers in Aberdeen and Glasgow for distribution.

The Isle of Skye Brewery has promised to make a batch of beer, to be known as Extortion Ale specially for SKAT and the anti toll protests. An event is planned sometime in January.
